Engagement portraits! One of my favorite pictures of my mother is her 1955 engagement portrait. At one time a newly engaged bride-to-be went to a photographer for a formal portrait to be published in the local paper with the engagement announcement.
While this practice has lost popularity along with announcements in the social pages of hometown papers, consider reinventing the engagement portrait for the 21st Century. A portrait of the engaged couple handcrafted using a collodion glass negative that is contact printed on albumen-coated and silver sensitized paper, processed in our “state of the 19th Century Art darkroom”, complete with toning using real gold, creates an instant heirloom to be treasured and passed down through generations.
Using heirloom photographic techniques to create modern images will provide you with a beautiful work of art and a conversation piece.
